La Cala Resort: 54 holes and why golfers keep coming back

La Cala Resort is one of the largest golf complexes in southern Spain, 54 championship holes designed by Cabell B. Robinson, spread across three courses in the hills above La Cala de Mijas.

Note: La Cala Resort is an independent neighbouring resort, not part of Harmony de Mijas. Our La Cala Golf apartment sits within the resort grounds, with the clubhouse under two kilometres away.

The three courses

Campo América, The original course (1991). Wide fairways with forgiving rough, suited to mid-handicappers. The 7th hole, a par-3 overlooking the sea, is the one everyone photographs.

Campo Asia, Tighter and more technical. Narrow fairways bordered by pines, with elevation changes that test club selection. Lower handicap golfers tend to prefer it.

Campo Europa, The newest and most acclaimed. Strategic water hazards and well-guarded greens. Hosted the PGA qualifying rounds.

The academy

La Cala’s Golf Academy is one of the few on the Costa del Sol with a full-length teaching course (9 holes), a driving range, practice greens, and PGA-certified instructors. Group lessons start around €40 per person; private lessons are €60–80 per hour.

Green fees (2026 season)

Green fees vary by season and course. Expect €70–120 per round in summer, €50–90 in winter. Multi-round packages and twilight rates bring the cost down. Book through the resort website or the pro shop, they occasionally offer last-minute availability at reduced rates.

Getting there from our apartments

From the La Cala Golf apartment: the clubhouse is 1.9 km away. Walk, take the buggy path, or drive in three minutes.

From Oasys de Ipanema: about 10 km by car, roughly 12 minutes via the AP-7 or the coastal road.
